Cars & Coffee - Chennai

Beaming with confidence, a young kid approached a car owner and introduced himself by saying 'I am a car influencer,' before taking a photo, shaking his hand and walking away with a wide smile. Witnessing this, I couldn't help but feel immense pride in the fact that the next generation of car enthusiasts from my home city aren't as shy as I once was. It's true about car culture in Chennai,  too, if you ask me. It is flourishing, finally!

Despite heavy motorsport presence, collecting cars or even getting a chance to see precious metal up close was limited in the past. In comparison to how things were say 15 years ago (which is when I had begun covering car-related events in Chennai), the whole scene has definitely evolved into one that's more inclusive and allows more people to enjoy cars. And enabling that are frequent get-togethers like Cars & Coffee Chennai.

Cars and Coffee - Chennai Aston Martin Supercar in India

It's a young event, the Chennai edition of Cars and Coffee, with the latest one being the 11th of its kind. But that doesn’t mean there was any lack of enthusiasm from the attendees. There was a nice selection of modern motorcycles while some collectors also brought along scale models. The full-sized cars on display presented a decently wide spectrum: from classics, modern everyday sports cars, to things more exotic — breaching almost into the supercar territory.

Chennai’s sprawling cafe map is getting denser with many specialist coffee places coming up, and I would personally love to see events like these become more frequent. The next one is being planned for late October/early November, I believe, and if you would like to be a part of it, do drop Mukundan a message for more info: https://www.instagram.com/carsandcoffee_chennai/
